Nearly one in four households still lack access to affordable internet services, and the divide was further exposed during the pandemic, as many were forced to work and go to school and medical appointments online. On Monday, the President and Vice President unveiled plans to broaden access and discounted high speed internet services to low income Americans.
According to the Pew Research Center, roughly a quarter of adults with household incomes below $30,000 a year, don’t own a smartphone. Four in 10 adults with lower incomes don’t have home broadband services or a desktop or laptop computer. And the majority of Americans with lower incomes are not tablet owners.
