Former President Barack Obama urged Democrats to toughen up and take action during a private fundraiser in New Jersey, warning that now is not the time for despair, according to CNN.

“Don’t tell me you’re a Democrat but you’re disappointed, so you’re doing nothing,” Obama said.

Obama emphasized the need for courage, calling on supporters to defend values like free speech — even when it’s uncomfortable.

He encouraged Democrats to stop seeking quick fixes and to focus on helping candidates win, especially in New Jersey and Virginia.

Criticizing zoning laws and political inaction, Obama said the priority must be delivering real results for working people.

The event raised $2.5 million for the DNC, with funds supporting upcoming governors races.
