Former President Barack Obama’s office issued a rare rebuke after Donald Trump revived baseless claims that Obama committed treason in connection with the Russia investigation, according to the Associated Press.
Trump’s accusations followed a new report from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard that downplayed Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Obama spokesperson Patrick Rodenbush responded, stating, “Our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense … but these claims are outrageous.” He called Trump’s allegations “ridiculous” and “a weak attempt at distraction.”
The response came as Trump and his allies pursue politically charged investigations into former officials involved in probing Russia’s election meddling — despite multiple bipartisan findings confirming Kremlin interference aimed at helping Trump’s 2016 campaign.
