Voting Problems? Election Protection Offers Help Before Midterms

Latest

(AURN News) — Missing names on voter rolls, intimidation at the polls and confusion about where to vote are among the barriers the Election Protection coalition says it’s watching for ahead of Tuesday’s midterms.

On a press call, civil rights leaders warned that Black and brown voters face efforts to weaken their political power, ranging from redrawing congressional districts to creating obstacles at the ballot box.

State Voices says those tactics can discourage people from participating and make them believe their vote won’t count.

Organizers are pushing back. Helen Butler, executive director of the Georgia Coalition for the People’s Agenda, says her organization has trained more than 700 volunteers to assist voters at polling places. Her coalition is one of dozens of groups preparing to help voters nationwide.

If you run into trouble voting, call or text 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683). The coalition says it can help with polling information and voting problems.
