(AURN News) — Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio, says President Donald Trump “threw a tantrum” during a Kennedy Center board meeting this week after a federal judge again blocked efforts to add Trump’s name to the building.
A federal judge again blocked efforts to add Trump’s name to the Kennedy Center.
Beatty, an ex officio board member, said Trump called her “dumb” and an “obstructionist” and told her, “I think you’re incompetent.” Beatty said she responded, “I know you’re incompetent.”
Beatty also said Trump threatened to hold her personally responsible if part of the Kennedy Center were to collapse and someone was injured or killed.
The exchange is the latest development in a legal fight over the Kennedy Center’s governance and whether a president can rename the federally chartered cultural institution without congressional approval.
Beatty’s lawsuit argues that Congress, not the president, has the authority to rename the Kennedy Center. She has also sought emergency court action over the center’s abrupt closure, arguing that it violates an earlier court order.
