On Thursday, declassified video was released that showed Russia’s intercept of a U.S. military surveillance drone that was downed over the Black Sea two days ago. The White House claimed the video, which exposed how Moscow was lying about the incident, was edited for length by the U.S. military but still shows events in a sequential order.

The MQ-9 drone was downed Tuesday, causing the first direct U.S.-Russia incident since the war in Ukraine began and worsening already tense relations between Washington and Moscow. The video shows images of the drone’s damaged propeller caused by the collision, making the aircraft inoperable and leading it to crash into deep waters.

The Pentagon said that Russia has been seen near the area where the drone crashed, indicating that Moscow is trying to recover debris from it. U.S. officials have criticized Russia’s actions as reckless, putting both U.S. and Russian military personnel at risk.
