Funeral services were held Friday for Deacon Heyward Patterson, one of 10 mass shooting victims killed inside of a Buffalo supermarket on May 14th.

“Every day, I have to pray and do a check-in with him and make sure he’s not mentally all over the place. His heart is broken… As a mother, what am I supposed to do to help him get through this?”
The white 18-year-old suspect, Payton Gendron, pleaded not guilty to charges related to the shooting. He wrote a manifesto before the killing promoting the idea that white people were being replaced by minorities. Gendron is the subject of a hate crimes probe from the Department of Justice and could face the death penalty.
