(AURN News) — People on Medicare received welcome news recently after the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced it is expanding access to GLP-1 medications.

Eligible beneficiaries will be able to receive those medications for $50 a month through the new Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program.

“Not all Medicare beneficiaries will qualify for the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, including individuals who already receive GLP-1 medications through their existing Medicare prescription drug coverage or are eligible for GLP-1 coverage through the Medicare Part D benefit,” CMS said in a statement.

Medicare currently covers more than 70 million people in the United States. More than 90% of those enrolled are age 65 or older.
