(AURN News) — Missy Elliott is bringing an HBCU band battle to her home state of Virginia on Sunday, Oct. 18, according to HBCU Gameday.

The inaugural Missy Elliott Presents HBCU Band Battle will begin at 4 p.m. at Norfolk State University’s William “Dick” Price Stadium.

Four marching bands will take the field: Norfolk State’s Spartan Legion, Virginia State’s Trojan Explosion, Hampton University’s Marching Force and Elizabeth City State’s Sound of Class.

Elliott, a Virginia native, said bringing the event home is especially meaningful. Her connection to Norfolk State includes delivering the university’s 2022 commencement address, receiving an honorary doctorate and donating $20,000 to the school.

The celebration will also feature the Missy Elliott Innovation Summit, focused on music, technology, education and entrepreneurship.
