New York Refuses Trump Administration’s Order to End DEI in Public Schools

According to the , New York state officials have informed the federal Education Department that they will not comply with the ‘s demand to end diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices in public .

In a letter, state officials said they do not believe the federal agency has the legal authority to impose such conditions or threaten funding.

The administration recently ordered K-12 schools to certify within 10 days that they are ending DEI practices to continue receiving federal aid, which makes up about 6% of New York’s K-12 school funding.

State education officials responded that they have already certified compliance with laws and view the administration’s demand as based on a flawed legal interpretation and a sudden policy shift.
