(AURN News) — A new poll is providing fresh insight into voters’ mixed feelings about President Donald Trump‘s tariff war and his overall handling of the economy as he is set to approach the 100-day mark of his second term at the end of the month.
A recent Quinnipiac University poll shows 72% of voters believe the tariffs will hurt the economy in the short term. Additionally, 53% say they expect the tariffs to cause economic harm over the long term. Among Republicans, 44% think the tariffs will hurt the economy in the short term, and 77% of independents agree.
On the subject of Trump’s performance, his approval rating has slipped slightly, falling from 42% in March to 41% in April.
The economy, a critical issue in the 2024 election, appears to be a point of concern: 55% of voters disapprove of Trump’s handling of economic matters. When asked specifically about trade, only 39% approve of the president’s performance.
Quinnipiac University conducted the poll with voters nationwide between April 3 and 7.
