Inflation Rises to 3.7% as Gas Prices Squeeze Americans

WASHINGTON (AURN News) — Americans are getting some relief at the grocery store, but they’re still paying more to make ends meet. Federal data shows grocery prices dipped 0.1% in September, while annual inflation rose to 3.7%, up from 3.4% in August.

Here’s what’s driving the pain: Gasoline prices jumped 9.1% in September and were up 34.2% compared with a year earlier. That’s a major burden for families already stretching their paychecks to cover food, housing and transportation.

The Trump administration has repeatedly promoted falling inflation as evidence of economic progress, but September’s figures show price increases accelerating.

With the midterm elections just days away, the economy remains a major test for Republicans as President Donald Trump has dismissed affordability as a “hoax” pushed by Democrats.
