On Sept. 7, 1996, Shakur and members of his entourage were involved in a small fight in the lobby of the MGM Grand hotel in Las Vegas, where they had traveled for a Mike Tyson boxing match.
Several hours later, Shakur and the head of Death Row Records, Marion “Suge” Knight, were riding to the Death Row-owned Club 662. A white Cadillac pulled up alongside them at a stop light and fired gunshots at the vehicle. Four shots struck Shakur, while one shot grazed Knight’s head.
