In Texas, Republican redistricting accomplished exactly what it was designed to do ...force two Black Democratic congressmen into the same district and eliminate one. Congressman Al Green 20 years in Congress is out. Not beaten by a Republican. Drawn out by a map. Meanwhile Trump-backed Ken Paxton impeached, indicted and a January 6th rally speaker just won the Republican Senate nomination and now faces Democrat James Talarico in November.
In South Carolina, Jim Clyburn's majority-Black seat survived but only because a handful of Republican state senators broke ranks at the last minute. Trump personally called the Senate leader and demanded they act. They didn't. But the threat is not gone.
