‘OUT & PROUD,’ Amandla posted on her Instagram account. ‘So happy to say the words Yep, I’m Gay in official print.’ ‘Interviewed for @wonderland by someone I stan infinitely – the fiercest garbagio pop queen @kingprincess69. Thank you to KP for providing me with such a safe space to come out. We talk about gay sobbing, first encounters with lesbian masturbation, queer icons, Toni Morrison, disillusionment as a critical step, the art I’ve been working on, and the films that I have coming out this year.’
It was just two years ago Amandla came out as bisexual in a series of emotional Snapchat videos. During a day-long takeover of the Teen Vogue Snapchat account, the 17-year-old actress, who appears on the cover of the magazine’s latest issue, explained to fans that she ‘identifies as a black bisexual woman’, before admitting that it had taken her some time to feel comfortable about openly revealing and embracing her sexuality.
