Comedy chiller Boo 2! A Madea Halloween scared some life back into the box office, bagging the top spot with $21.7 million on Sunday.
Starring Tyler Perry – who also wrote, directed and produced the sequel – it sees his alter ego Madea and the gang trying to escape from evil spirits after unwisely hanging out at a haunted campground. Boo 2! is the tenth Tyler title to open at No. 1, according to Deadline. Blade Runner: 2049 came in fourth with $7.1 million in its second weekend of release, for a domestic total of just over $75 million. It, too, did better elsewhere in the world, nabbing another $120 million for a respectable global total of just over $194 million, recouping its $150 million budget. The sci-fi reboot features Ryan Gosling as a Los Angeles Police Department ‘Blade Runner’ who hunts and kills escaped bioengineered androids known as Replicants.
