(AURN News) — A deadly shooting unfolded at an ICE field office in Dallas today. Officials say a sniper opened fire from a rooftop, killing one detainee and critically wounding two others before turning the gun on himself.

Investigators found a bullet at the scene marked with the words “ANTI-ICE,” according to The Associated Press.

The Department of Homeland Security called it a targeted attack, with Secretary Kristi Noem warning that harsh rhetoric against ICE has fueled violence. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, echoed that point, urging critics to be more careful with their words.

But this was gunfire inside a system already under fire. The Dallas office has processed more than 8,400 immigrants since President Donald Trump returned to office and has faced bomb threats and weekly protests over ICE’s treatment of detainees.

The question now is how much the rhetoric matters when the policies themselves already have communities on edge.
