(AURN News) — Dr. Layne Norton says people do not have to be perfect to improve their health.
Norton is a scientist, competitive bodybuilder and powerlifter, nutrition coach and evidence-based fitness expert who has built a major following by challenging misinformation around food, dieting, exercise and weight loss.
He says one of the biggest problems today is that people are overwhelmed by conflicting nutrition advice online.
“I really just try to be a bridge for people between like hardcore scientific evidence and then practical recommendations,” Norton told AURN News.
Norton also pushed back on the idea that healthy living requires perfection, expensive food or extreme exercise.
“You don’t need a ton a super high dosage of exercise to get a lot of benefits,” Norton said.
He says the biggest things people can focus on are not overeating, getting enough protein, eating fruits and vegetables and getting enough fiber.
“If you’re doing like those things, man, you’re like 95% of the way there,” Norton added.
For busy parents, entrepreneurs and people trying to get healthier while managing real life, Norton says the key is to avoid letting perfection stop progress.
“That is absolutely better than doing nothing. Like again, do not let the enemy of good enough be perfection,” he said.
Norton also says weight loss and fitness are not just about information. They are also about behavior, consistency and building small wins over time.
Through his Carbon – Macro Coach & Tracker app, Norton says users can receive customized nutrition targets, log food, complete weekly check-ins and get coaching adjustments based on their goals.
