(AURN News) — San Antonio Spurs veteran Harrison Barnes has invested $25 million of his own money to purchase Community State Bank in Paton, Iowa, a town of roughly 220 people, according to Yahoo Sports.

Barnes, 34, was born in Ames, Iowa, and starred at Ames High School before playing at the University of North Carolina and becoming the seventh overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft.

He studied finance at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.

Earlier this year, while still playing in the NBA, Barnes enrolled in the Iowa School for Banking, a professional development program run by the Iowa Bankers Association.

Barnes has earned more than $224 million during his NBA career, according to Spotrac.

The 2015 NBA champion has played for the Warriors, Mavericks, Kings and Spurs and recently signed a one-year, $8 million deal to return to San Antonio for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
