(AURN News) — Bishop William J. Barber II spoke forcefully in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Monday.
“What we are going to do is turn every ounce of our righteous anger into righteous mobilize because we are in a state of emergency that ought to cause everybody that cares about the basic fundamentals of democracy to be conspicuous in their outrage,” Barber said.
“Every time we win, they come back with another scheme. Now we’re angry, but it’s a righteous anger,” Barber said.
Barber and a coalition of faith leaders gathered Monday morning at Martin Street Baptist Church in Raleigh to oppose the Trump administration’s effort to impose new restrictions on mail-in voting.
The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to allow enforcement of Postal Service rules stemming from a March executive order that would impose new requirements on mail ballots and permit the agency to refuse delivery of ballots that do not meet those requirements.
Barber said his response goes beyond legal challenges and includes voter mobilization. His Love Forward Together campaign has organized more than 320 marches to the polls nationwide as part of an effort to mobilize 5 million low-wage voters, including 1 million Black men, with a particular focus on the South.
