WASHINGTON (AURN News) — ICE’s growing involvement in voter information and investigations is raising concerns about voter intimidation ahead of the midterm elections.

Democracy Forward says newly obtained government records show ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations probed voter registration nonprofits and considered undercover operations, with New Jersey and Pennsylvania listed as priorities.

The watchdog says HSI also obtained 50.6 million voter roll records from the Justice Department and another 48.4 million records from sources supplied by Heather Honey, a senior administration election official who previously challenged the 2020 election results.

Those figures represent records collected for investigation, not confirmed cases of illegal voting.

Democracy Forward accuses the administration of using voter fraud investigations to undermine ballot access. The group says putting voter registration groups under federal scrutiny could discourage their work and intimidate eligible voters.
