WASHINGTON (AURN News) — The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation opens its 55th Annual Legislative Conference on Wednesday with a message centered on participation, leadership and urgency.
Civil rights leaders and members of Congress are gathering in Washington as Black communities confront major debates over voting rights, economic opportunity, education, health disparities and criminal justice.
CBCF President and CEO Nicole Austin-Hillery said this year’s conference must combine celebration with purpose, calling for participation, leadership and collective resolve.
The five-day conference features more than 100 policy forums and brain trusts, bringing together lawmakers, advocates, entrepreneurs, students and community leaders.
This year also marks the foundation’s 50th anniversary under the theme “Rooted, Ready & Rising.” Organizers say honoring that history requires action on the challenges facing Black America now.
