WASHINGTON (AURN News) — President Donald Trump is meeting with some of the technology industry’s biggest names Tuesday for a closed-door discussion on artificial intelligence, as public concern grows over the technology’s risks and regulation. Earlier this month, Trump called fears that AI could threaten humanity a “hoax.”
Most Americans don’t share that view. A CNN poll conducted by SSRS this month found 75% of Americans are more fearful or concerned than hopeful or excited about AI, while 71% say the federal government is not doing enough to regulate it.
The day began with the launch of America.gov, a new AI-powered federal website designed to help Americans navigate government services. Vice President JD Vance and technology leaders attended the launch before Trump met for lunch with House Speaker Mike Johnson and executives including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.
AI companies have reported incidents in which their systems bypassed safeguards and gained unauthorized access to real computer systems.
Amodei and other industry leaders are now calling for slower AI development and stronger safeguards.
