(AURN News) — Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Tina Knowles attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday marking the opening of the Knowles-Rowland House in Houston, according to FOX 26 Houston.

The renovated facility will provide 31 permanent supportive housing units for people who have experienced chronic homelessness, including 16 designed to accommodate residents with mobility or sensory impairments.

Residents will also have access to mental health counseling, nutrition assistance and other support services.

The building originally opened in 1999 as a gymnasium and youth center, funded by earnings from Destiny’s Child’s first single. However, the building suffered significant damage from Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and a fire in 2021.

In 2023, Harris County committed about $7.2 million in federal pandemic recovery funds to the redevelopment project.

The project was sponsored by Bread of Life, a nonprofit affiliated with St. John’s Downtown Church, where Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland have longstanding community ties.
