(AURN News) — John Legend has partnered with Bilt to cover rent for 50 college students this fall at four schools, including three HBCUs: Wilberforce University, Central State University and Morehouse College, HBCU Buzz reported.
The rent assistance program is focused on students living off campus who are at risk of eviction, with Scholarship America partnering with Bilt on the initiative.
Legend, who paid his own rent while attending Penn, said his college experience helped shape the effort.
The partnership also coincides with the release of Legend’s 11th studio album, “Muse,” scheduled for Oct. 23.
Bilt says six in 10 students cannot afford college without financial help.
The company’s Oct. 1 Rent Day will also feature point donations to Scholarship America, giving Bilt members another way to support students facing housing costs and financial instability.
