Early Voting Surges in Key Senate Battlegrounds

Latest

(AURN News) — More than 30 million Americans have already voted with a week to go before the Nov. 3 midterm elections, according to the University of Florida’s Election Lab.

Now, the surge is showing up where control of the Senate will be decided. An Associated Press analysis of data through Oct. 20 found early voting in Texas was up 74% compared with the same point in 2022. In Kansas, early voting had more than doubled. Maine, North Carolina and Ohio were each up more than 30%.

What ties those states together? Democrats are trying to flip a Republican-held Senate seat in each of those states. In most, Republicans accounted for a smaller share of early voters than four years earlier.

The early voting totals suggest strong participation but do not establish which candidates are ahead.

With Election Day still ahead, millions of Americans aren’t waiting to vote, even as the administration’s election-related actions raise concerns about voter intimidation.
