Election Day: The Fight for Congress Goes to the Voters

Latest

(AURN News) — It’s Election Day, and Americans have already been voting in big numbers. More than 57 million people have cast their ballots early by mail or in person, according to NBC News. That exceeds the roughly 46 million people who voted early in the 2022 midterms.

Through Sunday, states reporting voters’ party affiliations had recorded early ballots from more than 11 million registered Democrats and about 8 million registered Republicans. Researchers also report strong early turnout among Black and Hispanic voters in several states. In Texas alone, more than 7 million people have already voted.

The Cook Political Report projects Democrats will pick up 12 to 25 House seats. They need a net gain of just three to take control.

The Senate is tougher. Democrats need a net gain of four seats to take control of the Senate.

For voters, major issues include the cost of living, with gas above $4 a gallon, the war with Iran and corruption.

Polls close tonight as voters decide who keeps and who loses power.
