WASHINGTON (AURN News) — Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a new sanctions campaign aimed at further isolating Iran from the global economy, warning, “Every country, every entity should know that they should be prepared to face U.S. sanctions.”
Bessent called the effort “economic D-Day” and unveiled what the administration is calling Operation Economic Outcast, a new sanctions campaign aimed at cutting Iran off from the global economy.
The Treasury Department sanctioned nearly 60 entities and individuals, including companies, brokers and shipping networks accused of moving Iranian oil and funneling money to the country’s Revolutionary Guard.
The sanctions target five sectors: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation and shipping.
Most of the sanctions will not take effect immediately. Bessent said the administration is providing a grace period for countries and companies to cut ties with Tehran before additional restrictions take effect.
