(AURN News) — On this day 25 years ago, the music world lost Aaliyah, one of R&B’s most influential young stars.
On Aug. 25, 2001, Aaliyah died in a plane crash in the Bahamas at just 22 years old, along with eight others.
Known as the “Princess of R&B,” she helped define the sleek, futuristic sound of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Her breakthrough hits included “Back & Forth,” “At Your Best (You Are Love),” “If Your Girl Only Knew,” “One in a Million,” “Are You That Somebody?” and “Try Again.”
She also made her mark in film, starring in “Romeo Must Die” and “Queen of the Damned.”
Though her life and career were tragically cut short, Aaliyah’s sound, style and effortless cool continue to influence artists across R&B and pop.
Twenty-five years later, her legacy remains unmistakable around the world.
