Black Owned Media Demanding Equitable Share of American Rescue Plan

The National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB) is appealing to Congress for equitable distribution of the Biden/Harris Administration’s American Rescue Plan.

The $1.9 trillion dollar economic stimulus package, including COVID-19 vaccinations, testing, treatment, and prevention. While African-Americans have been disproportionately affected by coronavirus, the number of Black people seeking vaccinations remains lower compared to other communities.

Jim Winston, President of NABOB penned a letter to Congress member and Congressional Black Caucus Chair Cedric Richmond (D-LA) imploring that funding earmarked for healthcare and relief messaging to Black Americans be delivered from Black owned media outlets.

American Urban Radio Networks is the only African-American owned and operated RADAR-rated radio network in the United States.

What You Need to Know About COVID Healthcare Costs

If you are leery to seek treatment or testing for Covid-19 due to the cost, fear not, you are covered.  Despite the multiple reports of hospitals not disclosing to uninsured COVID-19 patients that their hospital bills are covered, the reality is the government is covering patients through Medicaid.  Know your rights and see more details below.

1. Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act designated a portion of the fund to cover uninsured hospital patients. Read more on steps to financial relief from the US Treasury website.

2. Health care providers who have conducted COVID-19 testing or provided treatment for uninsured individuals with a COVID-19 primary diagnosis can request reimbursement through CARES electronically and will be reimbursed at Medicare rates. Read more on hrsa.gov.

3. Health care providers may submit claims for individuals in the U.S. who lack health insurance.
