(AURN News) – Democrats are celebrating victories in key elections across the country. A warning for President Donald Trump and his party. Former U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger made history as Virginia’s first female governor, while U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill won in New Jersey after campaigning on the economy and health care safety.
According to an Associated Press voter poll, more than half of voters in both states said the economy was their top issue, compared to just 10% who cited immigration. A sign that Trump’s message on border security isn’t resonating in the same way.
Democrats also swept the Supreme Court races in Pennsylvania and passed California’s Proposition 50, a redistricting measure that could give them up to five new House seats.
And in New York City, Zohran Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, stunned the establishment with a landslide mayoral win, declaring, “The future is in our hands.”
