The mother of George Floyd’s daughter, Roxie Washington, has filed a lawsuit against Kanye West on behalf of her child, who is the sole beneficiary of her father’s estate at this particular time. A news release from the family states that they are seeking $250 million in damages for harassment, misappropriation, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress.
According to the release, the suit claims that Kanye West knowingly made blatantly false statements about George Floyd’s death to promote his brand and increase marketing and value, and revenue for himself, his business partners, and associates.
Roxie’s attorney Nuru Witherspoon said, “The interests of the child are priority” and “George Floyd’s daughter is being re-traumatized by Kanye West’s comments and he’s creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for her.”
Well, my guess is the family will not only win this one, but personally, I think they should have sued for a whole lot more money. Just saying.
In other news, BET has announced the nominees for the Soul Train Music Awards taking place on Sunday, Nov. 13, in Las Vegas. Actor, comedian, and writer Deon Cole is going to host the event. You know that brother’s gonna turn it up because he always does.
Per the network’s news release, Beyonce and Mary J. Blige lead the 2022 nominations with seven nods a piece. Beyonce for Best R&B/Soul Female Artist, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and twice for best collaboration. Mary J. Blige has been nominated for Certified Soul, Best R&B/Soul Female Artist, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award, Video of the Year, and Best Collaboration.
So in other words, Beyonce and Mary J. are gonna be squaring off at the Soul Train Awards. I can’t wait for that one.
