Inventor Alice H. Parker made history on this day. In 1919, the Howard University graduate and a Morristown, New Jersey native patented her design for the gas heating furnace. Parker’s design revolutionized how people heated their homes, allowing them to no longer need to stock and burn wood in a traditional furnace. In 2020, the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce established the Alice H. Parker Women Leaders in Innovation awards to honor women who are innovators in their communities.
