(AURN News) – “The Trump administration has not done a damn thing throughout its entire time in office to make life better for the American people.” That was House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries speaking to reporters on the eve of Jan. 6.
Democrats are marking five years since the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol and warning that democracy could be at risk. Today, House Democrats are holding an unofficial examination of what they describe as ongoing risks to free and fair elections and public safety.
The focus includes President Donald Trump’s decision to pardon more than 1,500 people charged in connection with the Jan. 6 violence, along with broader concerns about election interference. They point to the Trump administration obtaining state voter registration lists, a renewed push to move states away from mail-in voting, and Trump publicly floating the idea of a third presidential term.
