(AURN News) — Former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax and his wife, Cerina Fairfax, were found dead in their Annandale, Virginia, home in what police described as an apparent murder-suicide, according to The New York Times.

Authorities said Fairfax, 47, fatally shot his wife before taking his own life shortly after midnight while their teenage children were present in the home.

Police indicated the couple had been involved in an ongoing domestic dispute tied to a contentious divorce.

Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said Fairfax shot his wife several times in the basement before going upstairs to the primary bedroom and killing himself with the same weapon.

Davis added that the couple, though separated, continued living together and that Cerina had installed cameras throughout the home.

In January 2026, Fairfax reported that his wife assaulted him, but officers reviewed the footage and determined the incident did not occur.

Fairfax, a Democrat, served as lieutenant governor from 2018 to 2022 and previously faced sexual assault allegations in 2019, which he denied.
