Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is on Capitol Hill today to promote his plan to “make America healthy again.” But instead of clarity, lawmakers are demanding answers about sweeping layoffs and budget cuts at federal health agencies, including the firing of CDC Director Susan Monarez after less than a month on the job.
Meanwhile, in Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis and Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo said they want to eliminate all childhood vaccine mandates — the same shots that have protected children from measles, polio and chickenpox for decades.
The World Health Organization says vaccines have saved 154 million lives worldwide in the past 50 years, most of them children.
Yet Florida is moving in the opposite direction, with critics warning of a public health disaster in the making. In response, Democratic governors on the West Coast are forming an alliance to protect immunization standards and accusing the Trump administration of politicizing public health.
