French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, have filed a defamation lawsuit against conservative commentator Candace Owens, according to CBS News.

The suit accuses Owens of knowingly spreading false claims that Brigitte Macron was born a man and stole another woman’s identity.

Filed in Delaware, the lawsuit says Owens ignored multiple retraction requests and launched a monetized eight-part podcast, “Becoming Brigitte,” to exploit the couple for attention and profit. The Macrons allege a “campaign of global humiliation” and emotional harm.

Owens, who was fired from The Daily Wire in 2024, dismissed the lawsuit as a PR stunt and criticized it in a video posted to YouTube. The Macrons say they filed the lawsuit to put an end to the false claims and restore their reputation.
