Police in Michigan are searching for answers to why a man went on a shooting rampage at Michigan State University, killing three students and injuring five more.
Michigan State University Department of Public Safety Interim Deputy Chief Chris Rozman told reporters that the suspect killed himself after committing the shootings and had no affiliation with the school.
“The 43-year-old suspect had no affiliation to the university. He was not a student, faculty, staff, current or previous,” Rozman said.
He also said a weapon was recovered, but he did not have any additional information at this time.
“Those are things that we will continue to process and look at today,” Rozman added.
Students and people in the area are on edge. Here’s MSU freshman Mataya Newbern:
“And when you see other people run, you run. That’s what you do all. All I could do is just think about nothing and everything at the same time,” Newbern said.
A survivor of the 2021 Oxford High School shooting was among the students there. Her mother says:
“It was like reliving Oxford all over again. It, it was surreal. The phone call and the word shooting.”
Today is the five-year anniversary of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida. That’s where 17 people were killed and more than a dozen others injured.
