The Harris-Walz campaign is ramping up its national security critique of former President Donald Trump ahead of tonight’s debate, with 10 retired senior military officers endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the most qualified candidate to serve as president. In a statement, the military leaders declared Harris “the best—and only—presidential candidate in this race who is fit to serve as our commander-in-chief.

They cited her leadership on key issues like Ukraine and China, while slamming Trump for what they called reckless and chaotic handling of U.S. national security. The officers also condemned Trump’s treatment of troops, recalling his comments referring to fallen soldiers as “suckers and losers,” and his mismanagement of the Afghanistan withdrawal, which they say, put service members at risk.

The Harris-Walz team also launched a new ad featuring former Trump officials like Mike Pence and John Bolton, warning of the dangers of a second Trump presidency.

The statement was signed by the following military officials:

  • Admiral Steve Abbot, USN (Ret)
  • Brigadier General Steven M. Anderson, USA (Ret)
  • Major General Peter S. Cooke, USA (Ret)
  • General Larry R. Ellis, USA (Ret)
  • Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps John L. Estrada, USMC (Ret), former Ambassador
  • Major General Randy Manner, USA (Ret)
  • Vice Admiral Dennis V. McGinn, USN (Ret), former Assistant Secretary of the Navy
  • General Lloyd W. Newton, USAF (Ret)
  • Major General Marilyn Quagliotti, USA (Ret)
  • Rear Admiral Michael E. Smith, USN (Ret)
