The debate stage in Philadelphia is set for Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. It goes down tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern on ABC. Some have described this long-awaited matchup as a debate between the prosecutor and the felon.
Leading up to the debate, polls show the two presidential nominees nearly neck and neck in battleground states, with Harris polling one or two points higher in some. Polls also show, though, that nearly 30 percent of Americans don’t really know her, but they’re waiting to hear more about her policies.
Can she deliver a clear message that clears the trail of victory while calling out Trump on his lies? Will she double down on Project 2025? Will Trump get through a debate without name-calling and stay on track with a message that includes any type of policy, without becoming unhinged?
The rules for the verbal matchup are set. Microphones will be muted when it is not the candidate’s turn to speak, Trump will give the final closing statement, and each candidate will have two minutes to answer questions, two minutes for a rebuttal, and one minute for a follow-up.
