Prince was born on June 7, 1958, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to parents who were members of a local jazz band. He taught himself to play the piano, guitar, and drums. As a teenager, he was part of a band called Grand Central. Prince released his first solo album, “For You,” in April 1978. His second album was “Prince” in 1979, and he reached a new level of pop stardom in 1982 with the album “1999”. However, the album and movie “Purple Rain” made him a superstar in 1984. The film won an Oscar for Best Original Score.

Prince passed away in 2016 at 57 years old. He has sold over 150 million albums worldwide and is the winner of seven Grammy Awards.
