People made their voices heard yesterday at the Los Angeles City Council meeting. During the meeting, dozens of protesters crashed the chambers, angry over racist comments caught on tape by several LA City Council members focused on Councilman Mike Bonin’s adopted Black son.

Councilwoman Nury Martinez is at the center of the scandal after she was caught calling Bonin’s son “a little monkey.” She stepped down as the council president but remains a council member.

The comments were made last October during a private meeting involving Martinez and several other council members. Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, who is now acting LA City Council President, is also calling for resignations.

“They need to resign. That is very, very clear,” O’Farrell said.
