Report: Jay-Z to Buy NFL Team

The Financial Times reports that Jay-Z and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos are teaming up to buy the Washington Commanders, D.C.‘s NFL team. The deal could put the value of the team at $6 Billion Dollars. The Financial Times cites two people who were briefed on the possible deal. Bezos also owns the Washington Post. If it goes through that $6 Billion dollar price tag would be a record price for a sports team. This past summer Rob Walton who is the billionaire heir to the Walmart fortune, purchased the Denver Broncos for $4.6 billion dollars.

Yahoo News reports that current owner Dan Snyder is being forced to sell as he is embroiled in financial controversy.

The US Attorney’s office in the Eastern District of Virginia is investigating the franchise for allegedly withholding revenues due to visiting teams playing in Washington, and failing to return deposits for tickets to fans.
