Southern University officially launched its own radio station, WSUB “The Bluff,” on 106.1 FM, taking over the former WTQT gospel radio frequency during a Friday ceremony on Government Street, WAFB reported.
Chancellor John K. Pierre signed the agreement, calling it a transformative opportunity for students. “We’re trying to provide a living learning laboratory,” he said.
Station Manager Nicolette Gordon described the launch as a “divine full-circle moment,” having long dreamed of this milestone. Gordon aims to mentor students in radio basics while promoting Baton Rouge’s rich music history.
The station will feature gospel, hip-hop, R&B and pop music 24/7, supporting local talent and cultural awareness.
