The NBA 2K video game series is known not just for its realistic basketball gameplay, but also for its iconic soundtracks. From hip-hop legends to breakout artists, every NBA 2K soundtrack reflects the culture, energy, and rhythm of the sport. Whether curated by stars like Jay-Z or packed with underground gems, these playlists have helped define the vibe of basketball gaming for over two decades. Below, I’m counting down the top 10 NBA 2K soundtracks of all time — ranked for their musical impact, diversity, and replay value.

One thing that makes the NBA 2K soundtrack stand out is its constant evolution. Starting with NBA 2K20, the game began receiving regular music updates — typically every month or two — adding fresh songs to the playlist. This means players always have something new to listen to, keeping the in-game experience exciting. Before 2K20, each game had a static soundtrack that remained unchanged until the next title dropped. Now, in NBA 2K24, the rotating soundtrack adds another layer of freshness and keeps the game feeling current.

As a dedicated NBA 2K player and lifelong music fan, I’ve put together my personal Top 10 All-Time NBA 2K Soundtrack list. This isn’t a definitive ranking — just my own opinion based on the soundtracks that resonated with me the most. There’s no specific order, just 10 editions that elevated the gameplay with unforgettable music.

1. Come See Me – PARTYNEXTDOOR & Drake (NBA 2K17)

  • I chose this song because it’s calm and relaxing — the kind of track I can leave playing in the background without needing to focus on gameplay. In my opinion, NBA 2K17 had one of the strongest soundtracks the franchise has ever offered.

2. I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times) – Jamie xx ft. Young Thug & Popcaan (NBA 2K17)

  • This was definitely one of my favorite songs on 2K. I really enjoyed Young Thug’s verse — he made the track even more fun. As I mentioned earlier, NBA 2K17 had a great soundtrack, and this was one of the standout tracks.

3. Didn’t Cha Know – Erykah Badu (NBA 2K23)

  • As I write this, I’m 25 years old (turning 26 this Sunday), but I’ve always had an old soul when it comes to music like this. Erykah Badu’s voice is incredibly soothing and therapeutic. This is another song I can enjoy without even playing the game. Definitely a top five for me.

4. Damage – PARTYNEXTDOOR, Halsey (NBA 2K19)

  • This song has an uptempo vibe that just puts me in a good mood. Both PARTYNEXTDOOR and Halsey — who I wasn’t very familiar with before — did a great job on this track.

5. West Like – Destiny Rogers, Kalan.FrFr (NBA 2K23)

  • I really like the West Coast-style sound this song delivers. NBA 2K23 introduced me to Kalan.FrFr, and I really enjoy his style. Another feel-good track that makes playing more enjoyable.

6. B.R.O. (Better Ride Out) – A Boogie Wit da Hoodie ft. Roddy Ricch (NBA 2K24)

  • As a New York native, A Boogie is like a generational icon. I would’ve listened to this song whether or not it was on 2K. I’m a fan of his sound — it’s distinct. The hook is definitely my favorite part.

7. Doo Wop (That Thing) – Lauryn Hill (NBA 2K15)

  • Like I said, I’ve always had an old soul. I loved this song even before NBA 2K15, but hearing it more while playing made me appreciate it even more. From the beat to the message, it’s a powerful track. One line that really hits home is: “How you gon’ win when you ain’t right within?” That lyric speaks volumes.

8. Rise & Shine – J. Cole (NBA 2K16)

  • J. Cole used to be one of my favorite rappers growing up. This track comes from his 2011 debut album, and it solidified his place in hip-hop — especially being signed to Jay-Z. Lyrically, Cole stands out. One of my favorite lines is: “Hope my momma gets to see Jamaica before she meets her maker.” That line gives me goosebumps every time — it’s so relatable.

9. Chosen – Blxst, Tyga ft. Ty Dolla $ign (NBA 2K22)

  • This one is just straight chill vibes. The hook is super catchy — you’ll catch yourself nodding along without even realizing it.

10. Gold – Kiiara (NBA 2K17)

  • This track is legendary for NBA 2K17 fans. It was the first song that played on the loading screen, and after hearing it so often, it grew on me. I’m not exactly sure what she’s saying at times, but the melody and rhythm are so catchy that it doesn’t matter. This is easily one of my top five — another example of how strong the 2K17 soundtrack really was.

Honorable Mentions

1. Black and White – Nasty C, Ari Lennox (NBA 2K24)

  • I really like the hook on this song. Ari Lennox did a great job on this track. I wasn’t familiar with her prior to this song.

2. Dior – Pop Smoke (NBA 2K21)

  • Being from NY, I felt as if I had to include Pop in this list. This song had New York in a frenzy when it first came out. R.I.P. Pop Smoke.

3. AEAO – Dynamicduo, DJ Premier (NBA 2K16)

  • Every OG 2K player knows this song. This is a fan favorite for sure. The hook is extremely catchy.
