(AURN News) — “Republicans have to win this one. We’ll never lose a race. For 50 years, we won’t lose a race,” President Donald Trump said during a speech in Rome, Georgia.

Trump made the remarks at a steel plant while discussing voter ID requirements, proof of citizenship and limits on mail-in ballots — elements included in the SAVE Act.

The bill would require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote and a photo ID to cast a ballot. Voting rights groups are warning that this could block millions of eligible voters who do not have easy access to passports or birth certificates.

Trump repeated claims of cheating in Georgia’s 2020 election and referenced the FBI’s seizure of ballots in Fulton County, a matter that is now tied up in court. County officials are suing for their return, and a hearing is scheduled for Feb. 27.

Georgia already requires voter ID, and multiple recounts and investigations after the 2020 election found no evidence of widespread fraud.
