(AURN News) — President Donald Trump cut short a “Meet the Press” interview after clashing with host Kristen Welker over questions about the 2020 election and California politics.
“That’s how they vote in California,” Welker said.
“They’re crooked, just like you’re crooked. Your press is crooked, and Meet the Press is crooked,” Trump replied.
“To be fair, I’m not crooked, but let’s continue,” Welker said.
“Really? When you play right into their hands, you’re either crooked or you’re stupid,” Trump said.
President Donald Trump stormed out of a “Meet the Press” interview Sunday after turning on host Kristen Welker, calling her “either crooked or stupid” before ripping off his microphone and ending the sit-down early.
The interview, recorded Friday in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, unraveled when Welker pressed Trump on unsubstantiated claims about the 2020 election and the ongoing California gubernatorial race.
For many observers, the moment was familiar. Welker joins a growing list of Black female journalists who have faced direct personal attacks from the president during interviews and press conferences.
Trump has repeatedly clashed with reporters such as Yamiche Alcindor, Abby Phillip and Rachel Scott, including AURN White House correspondent Ebony McMorris, dismissing questions, talking over them and questioning their intelligence or credibility in ways critics say go beyond political pushback.
