(AURN News) — According to NBC News, former CNN anchor Don Lemon was arrested by federal authorities Thursday night in connection with a protest at a Minnesota church service earlier this month.

Lemon, 59, was taken into custody in Los Angeles, where he was covering the Grammy Awards, according to his attorney, Abbe Lowell.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said Lemon and three others were arrested in connection with what she described as a “coordinated attack” on Cities Church in St. Paul on Jan. 18.

Details of the charges were not immediately released, though the Justice Department had previously indicated it would pursue charges after Lemon, acting as an independent journalist, covered the protest.

Lowell criticized the arrest as a First Amendment violation and accused the Trump administration of using the case to distract from its immigration crackdown in Minnesota, where two U.S. citizens were killed.
