WASHINGTON (AURN News) — With just under six weeks until Election Day, NBC News’ polling average shows Democrats widening their advantage over Republicans in the race for Congress.
The average released Friday gives Democrats their biggest lead yet on the generic congressional ballot, 52% to 43% among likely voters — a 9-point advantage.
When President Donald Trump returned to office in January 2025, the two parties were essentially tied in the polling average. His approval rating in the average is now 35%, while 59% disapprove. He began his second term at 50% approval.
NBC News’ analysis points to independent voters as a key source of the shift. Republicans and Democrats have largely stayed with their parties, while independents have shifted toward Democrats and grown increasingly dissatisfied with the economy, according to NBC News’ analysis.
The 9-point national advantage is a warning sign for the GOP but does not translate directly into congressional seats. Control of Congress will be decided in individual House districts and statewide Senate races, where incumbency, district boundaries and local dynamics can shape the outcome.
