WASHINGTON (AURN News) — The White House has suffered another legal setback over voting rules. U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani blocked Trump’s mail-in voting order nationwide, not just in the states that sued him.
The order sought to require the Postal Service to deliver mail ballots only to voters on a federal citizenship list and pressure states to provide that list or risk ballots not being mailed.
Trump has been pushing the policy since spring, and courts have repeatedly blocked it. Earlier rulings in D.C. and Massachusetts restricted parts of the order, with the Massachusetts injunction covering 23 states and Washington, D.C. Now the latest ruling applies nationwide.
The judge ruled that elections are administered by the states, not the president, and that changing the rules this close to Election Day could create chaos rather than security.
Mail-in voting remains unchanged heading into the midterms, but a separate lawsuit challenging another part of the same executive order is before the Supreme Court, awaiting a ruling that could reshape the issue again before November.
